How are the funeral director and funeral home chosen?
You can nominate your chosen fd, Capital life will do everything possible to allocate to them if unable to do so they will give you a choice of local fds to choose from
What happens if my allocated funeral director goes out of business?
The plan is safe and can be moved to another funeral director in your area
Can I buy a funeral plan on someone else’s behalf?
Yes. When you are applying, simply make us aware of who it is for.
Do I have to have a medical examination?
No, there are no medical examinations or questions. All of our funeral plans are available to anyone, regardless of their health or medical history. All that is required, is that you are 18 or older when taking out a plan and where you choose to pay for the plan by instalments, the plan is paid for in full by your 85th birthday.
Are there any hidden charges?
No. We’ve taken a lot of care to ensure that everything is transparent. All charges associated with each plan option are highlighted. If you’d like more clarity, please contact us and we’ll explain exactly what is included in the price of your chosen plan.
How do I add personal touches?
We’ll discuss any special requests with you on your welcome call. If you are already on a plan, please call the office and one of our friendly team will be happy to help and discuss these with you.
Why take out a Capital Life Funeral Plan?
There are many reasons for taking out a funeral plan, but the main ones are to ensure that your wishes are known and followed, your loved ones do not have to shoulder the burden of the costs of a funeral and with the costs of funerals on the rise year after year, taking out a pre-paid funeral plan, freezes the costs now, protecting your loved ones from escalating costs.
What are third party fees or Disbursements?
Third Party fees (also known as Disbursements) are costs that are necessary for a funeral to take place but are not included in the services provided for by a Funeral Director. The third-party fees include any fees payable to doctors or a coroner for the issue of death or cremation medical certificates, or coroner’s certificates, the cremation or burial/interment fees and the Minister/Celebrants fees to perform the service at the Crematorium/Cemetery/Graveside. Third party fees can vary widely between different crematoriums/burial sites/ministers etc and circumstances of death. So, Capital Life gives a generous allowance, which will go towards these specified fees. If at the time of death, the allowance is insufficient to cover these aspects then there may be additional costs to pay by you or your representatives.
Can anyone have a funeral plan?
Normally anyone who is over 18 years old can apply for a funeral plan, and we can guide you through a range of plans to suit everyone’s needs and budget. You can also buy a plan for someone else, such as a loved one or close friend. Furthermore, no medical is required to take out a Capital Life Funeral Plan.
A loved one has just passed away. Can I take out a funeral plan to take care of the funeral arrangements?
Yes, we can still carry out the funeral arrangements. As long as the deceased is still at the hospice, hospital or at home Capital Life can take care of everything. This applies to the Traditional, Royal and Imperial Plans only. Capital Life require payment in full for an immediate funeral.
Can I pay for extras to my plan later?
Yes, you can choose a variety of optional extras when you first take out your plan, as well as at any time later. Just call one of our helpful advisors on 0800 411 8683 who can discuss the various options available to you. You can also specify any personal requests you may have, such as a particular type of flower for your wreath, or any particular hymns you would like if you are having a service. It’s your funeral and we will do our utmost to make it memorable for your family and friends. Please feel free to use our funeral wishes from our website www.capitallifefuneralplans.co.uk to note down any special requests you may have. Let your family know where you keep it so when the time comes, they can take comfort in knowing your wishes can be followed.
A relative already has a plan with Capital Life but has died abroad. Can you bring them home?
Capital Life can help you make the necessary arrangements to sort out repatriation of your loved one. The cost of bringing the deceased home varies depending on where they passed away, but you can take comfort
in the knowledge that Capital Life will do their utmost to help with their repatriation service.
Where does my money go? How do I know it is safe?
At Capital Life Funeral Plans the money you pay towards your plan is held in a totally independent secure trust fund. Your money is protected until it is needed.
I’ve bought a funeral plan, what should my family do when I pass away?
When you purchase a funeral plan from Capital Life
you will receive a full welcome pack in the post. Within this welcome pack is a clear guide for your loved ones
to follow. In short, they contact the 24-hour helpline
to notify us of the death along with the plan reference number, which will be on your plan certificate (also included in the pack). From there the Funeral Director will take care of everything according to the particulars of the plan purchased. The Funeral Director will be there to help guide your loved ones through all the arrangements to ensure a compassionate and caring funeral.
Objection - Can you send it out to me in writing?
This is a positive not a negative. They are interested at this point. It’s important not to sell on 21 days. Respond with:
“Yes sure, I can certainly get this out in the post for you. The first thing I want to do is though look at choosing the right payment option for you.
Notes: Flipping the psychology on this is key to making the sale.
“Would you want to pay for it in 1 go or would you want to spread it off over a longer period of time?”
Notes: Don’t GIVE THEM TOO MANY OPTIONS! Narrow it down to the one option first then go from there, Always give them 2 options then get them to choose which one they want to go with rather than ask them if they are interested.
Objection - I just want to have a think about it?
That’s fine [ Name ] I’ve not got a problem with that at all. Are you happy with the plan?”
“Right ok, so are you happy with the price?”
“Okay, if it’s not the plan and it’s not the price, what is it that you want to think about?”
Notes: At this point they should give you the real objection/ concerns they have - put the objection back to client
Objection - I need to speak with my Children first!
“Ok, I fully appreciate you want to talk to your [ Next of Kin ]. You mentioned earlier you don’t want the burden to be passed on to [ Next of Kin ] so it’s important to make it as easy as possible for them. This decision is really about you not your son. He’s not going to see the situation in the same light as you.”
Make it personal/talk about a story when your mum/family member talked to you about a funeral plan
Example:
“I remember, it must have been about 10 years ago, when my mum sat down with me and started to talk to me about a funeral plan, I literally just switched off. It’s not something I wanted to hear. I just said to my mum, I’ll sort it out. I felt it was my duty. The problem was though was 8 years later we ended up paying almost double what it would have been back then. It left us all in a lot of financial difficulty. I wish I had listened to my mum.”
Objection - I want to talk to my wife
It’s easier to talk about the plan when you have the paperwork compared to not having the paperwork. If there are any questions your wife asks that you might not know the answer to, at least with the paperwork you can have the answers in front of you?
What do you think your wife will feel about this?
Objection - I'm already covered
Brilliant. Is that through life insurance? (Don’t ask 'Do you mind me asking' ... Always be direct)
If Yes: “The problem you have is that it will Not be enough to cover the rising costs of funerals”
“How much cover does it give you at the moment?”
“That’s the problem. In 15 years you would need to find nearly £--.-- so you would have to find an additional £--.-- on top. Life insurance doesn't freeze the cost of the funeral and you will have to keep on paying until you are 90. This is the problem with Life Insurance. What we do...”
Notes: We need to fish for information in the limited time frame we have. Getting them to spill the beans on life insurance is a massive positive as we can sell against the negatives of life insurance.
What happens if Capital Life goes out of business/ what happens to my money?
We operate the same way as many of the other leading funeral providers. The money that you pay is held in a secure trust fund that is separate to the Company. The trust is managed by an independent board of trustees for your protection. If something was to happen to Capital Life, then you will still have your plan. Bear in mind the Capital Life group has been established since 1998 and we have these securities in place for your protection. The question you should really ask, is what happens if the funeral director that we assign to conduct the funeral, goes out of business? You’ll simply be moved to the next local funeral director that is with Capital Life. The money that you pay is not released until the day of the funeral, so if anything does happen or if you move, you can take your plan with you.
